Gholar Dal  

Ingredients 

  • Bengal Gram Dal - 250 gms.
  • Coconut - 1/2 .
  • Cummin Seed - 1 tsp.
  • Red Chilli Whole - 4 Nos.
  • Asafoetida - a pinch
  • Sugar - 1 tsp., Salt to taste
  • Vanaspati - 50 gms.
  • Bay Leaves - 2 Nos.
  • Soda - a pinch. 
Method 
  • Soak the dal in a soda for about 1 hour. 
  • Boil dal with bay leaves and salt till cooked. Make sure it is not fully mashed. 
  • Cut coconut into small dices and fry in vanaspati till golden brown. 
  • Prepare a tempering by heating vanaspati in a frying pan and adding cummin seeds, red chilli whole and asafoetida. 
  • Add this to the dal. Add the coconut and sugar and cook for another 2 minutes. 
Serve hot
