I. Project: Maharashtra Seamless Limited (Nagothane and Mumbai in Maharashtra with HO at Delhi)

June 2000 till date

The largest manufacturer of Seamless pipes and tubes, Maharashtra Seamless Limited (MSL) has annual production capacity of 100,000 metric tonne per year. MSL is a flagship company of the Jindal Group of India with a capital layout of Rs. 700 million and 600 employees. MSL has a turnover of Rs. 1050 million in 1994-95. Turnover in 1998-99 is Rs. 1850 million.

Since the Company has plants at three different locations in Nagothane and Mumbai in Maharashtra with HO at Delhi, the need for an ERP with high degree of integration was always felt. The implementation of Ramco e.Applications was executed for Commercial modules covering Financials, Logistics, and Sales in five phases. The first phase consisted of preliminary scoping exercise. The scoping study provided a first level description of the existing processes, documentation and reports. The second phase started with detailed end-user training. This training provided a platform for interaction in mapping process with the product. The development of business solutions & mapping was taken up subsequent to this phase of the ERP exercise. The existing business processes were studied in greater detail during this phase. The fourth phase consisted of Roll out of Commercial modules, prior to which acceptance of all business solutions was taken from the client. Live run of transactions was initiated after product installation and master uploads. Live support was imparted till the system achieved a certain degree of maturity and matching of records with the old legacy system. The last phase concluded with the final sign off from the client.

Role: As Functional Consultant and Business Analyst for Logistics / Material Management responsible for the following:

Stage I : For Presales consultancy.
Stage II : For Implementation of Ramco e.Application (All Modules) based on the implementation methodology R-SPRINT of Ramco.
- Scoping and Preparation. Prepare Implementation Scoping Report.
- Train User Champions in their respective core areas
- Business Engineering: Interactions are on with the client to complete and generate the Business Blueprint.
- Carry out business process engineering and business process modelling along with customer's User Champions to identify processes to be automated
- Identify gaps that exist between processes that are currently being followed in the organizations and Ramco Finance modules.
- Identification of workarounds, extensions, customisations, areas of business processes changes and detailing of policy changes as required along with customers User Champion. Estimate time required for development. Prepare Business Mapping Report.
- Business Modelling: Finalization of Business Mapping Report.
- Product Extension / Customisation - customer specific.

II. Project: Jindal Pipes Limited (Jindal Nagar, Ghaziabad, U.P, with HO at Delhi.)

Oct, 1999 to May, 2000

JINDAL Pipes Ltd, a pioneer with many firsts, is Synonymous with India's best ERW, Galvanized and Black mild steel pipes. Operational since 1970, with production capacity of 2,00,000 MT per annum.

JINDAL Pipes Ltd had gone live with its Ramco e.Application Implementation in Phased manner. The Consulting Support is provided by the NISL.

JINDAL DRILLING & INDUSTRIES LIMITED, set up in 1983 is in the business of drilling and prospecting for oil & gas offshore both offshore and onshore and provides a wide spectrum of field services

Role: As a Functional Consultant / Business Analyst, was responsible for the followings:

- Implementation of Ramco e.Application (All Modules) based on the implementation methodology R-SPRINT of Ramco.

As a Consultant my responsibilities are to interact with Client, understand the system requirement, analyze and Design the system following complete SDLC, which includes preparations of Test Plan, and Test Cases, control the changes and track all the activities to ensure the product quality and delivery. My contributions are to effectively communicate with my team, prepare system requirement specification, high and low level design of the system.

Jan, 1999 to June, 1999

L.T.OVERSEAS LIMITED, a leading exporter of basmati rice to USA/Europe with an annual turnover of Rs150 crores. The project was executed in two phases.

- Phase I - Study of existing business processes of L.T.Overseas Ltd.
- Mapping the core business processes to SAP R/3 in IGI's development facilities.
- Carry out a live demo of the working software to the client.
- Phase II - Setting up the system for the client's sites and providing live support.

Resource Allocation - Project team consisted of Project Manager, 4 functional consultants and 1 technical consultant for ABAP support.

Project Scope - All core modules - FI, MM, PP and SD implemented at 3 sites, Corporate Office, Sonepat Plant and Hamidpur Sales Depot. Their UK office was not covered in the scope as desired by the client. ASAP (modified) project methodology was adopted.

Business Drivers - (1) Reduction in inventory.
(2) Better customer satisfaction through integration of core business functions.

Hardware/Software - All Hardware and Software requirements were determined in Phase I of the study. The system details consisted of Windows NT, SQL server, SAP R/3 Version 3.1H (Licensed to Infotech Global Inc., since Phase I was basically a demo for the client). For Phase II the required licenses for the client would be purchased from SAP India.

Contribution:
- Prepared questionnaire for User Department (Material Management).
- Preliminary discussions held with users to gain an understanding of their business processes.
- Customizing and modelling of MM Module and establishing integration with other business processes.
- Fitment report prepared including possible workarounds.
